Question 4 - Evaluation

How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Through out the project, we utilised a wide variety of different technologies in order to produce high quality media products. Most of the techniques and software were already common between us thanks to the knowledge gained from the magazine project; however, we still discovered some new features that brought our work higher.

Film Poster/Cover Production

This was a very useful video that helped us create the magazine that we have presently. The various designs and conventions that the editor used broaden our creativity which allowed us to formulate a simple coherent theme.

For example, our poster can take solace it's clear yet dynamic background which we felt helped the audience focus more on the facial expressions from the actors. In addition, the font that we used from dafont helped create a more urban look for our media productions which we found received positive feedback from our audience.

Film Trailer

We were asked to use I movie for the construction of our film trailer, which turned out to be very successful overall. The fade in and out transitions helped make our trailer flow seamlessly which was useful because it made it look very realistic.

This video proved to be very useful as it gave the bare bones of what I movie can do. We found it helped when trying to find out how to import our video clips, how to add in the sound for the video clips, how to crop the files once it has been imported, and how to add in text slides. All this combined, helped us to produce the trailer that we have now, and quite frankly we feel that it helped a lot.

We recorded our trailer using a HD ready camera that turned out to be adequate as well as the stand that came with it. This was useful when trying to get a perfect footage. The camera we used to take our magazine and poster cover photos however was excellent as it was a professional standard that could capture the visual immaculately. This proved to be very useful when designing our prints with photo shop, as the clarity helped the final design look professional.

Research

We documented our research using a variety of different software and programs. This proved to be very efficient because we could document our work using a range of different resources as well as in different ways.

To research for film videos in my genre, websites such as YouTube provided the most amount of help. I done this research this using a PC and iMac. YouTube provided me with research on trailers that we would try to mimic for our own media production. This was useful because it allowed us to better understand the conventions that general trailers have.

We used Blogger a lot in our project to document our media work as we progressed. Blogger was brilliant as it easy to update our work as we went along and we could upload embed pictures, videos, and links to display where we were getting our ideas and inspirations from.

In some cases, we felt it was better to use power point, word, and slide share in order to present our work. This became very useful because it allowed us to create a more visual version of what we were trying to show. An example of this was any analysis that we had to do.

Evaluation - Blogger
  • Easy to use and accessible from our personal computers, mobile phones, etc.
  • Easy to keep up to date.
  • The progress from introduction to evaluation was very clear.
  • Signing into blogger and publishing documents wasn't hard to do

Evaluation - YouTube
  • Easy to upload our final products and embed them onto blogger
  • Useful for researching trailers
Evaluation - Slideshare, Word, and Power Point

  • Easy to create a visual presentation and upload it onto Blogger
  • Converting the power point file was easy to do in slide share

Question 3 - Evaluation

By using the information from this video, we could comprehend a lot more effectively how the audience views our media products. This will be useful when trying to analyse what our target audience's preferences are, what they dislike, and how to attract them in the future. In regards to areas of improvement, we found that in order to widen our target audience, we should consider bringing in more variety of demographic areas such as a female character for gender or even the location itself.
