Location Photos

The first image is a photo of the bridge where the first attack takes place. it was selected because it is so secluded and once you are on it there is almost no escape. The second and third images show the stairs at the end of the bridge from the persdpective of James the victim. The design of the bridge would make it difficult for James to see any incoming danger. The fourth and fifth images show the stairs from Anthony, the bullys point of view. we can see that he is able to very easily hide around the corner and not be seen by James

Costume & Props Planning

For the props and costume in our trailer, we want it to mimic the conventions of what society would consider a "nerd" and a "troubled teenager". Therefore, i'm going to use glasses, smart clothes, and a simple style to try and create this archetype for the "nerd". This has been done because i believe it's the most appropriate way to give off this effect without having to use unnecessary items. Also, the viewers will instantly know what type of actor he is.

For the hooded person, I'm going to apply the same approach. This will be done by having him dress up using the conventions that of what society would consider a "chav". This will be done by the actor wearing a bandanna across his face, hood up and wearing predominantly dark clothes with trainers. The reason why i have done this is because it has been known that these common traits have been what defined a "troubled" teenager and thus, the viewers will be able to instantly recognized him.

Film trailer analysis

In the beginning of the Harry Potter trailer the production company of the Harry Potter films emerges on the screen, this is so the audience know that Warner Bros is responsible for the production of the Harry Potter films and so that the audience might go and watch more of Warner Bros productions.
Throughout the opening of the trailer the pace of the switching of camera shots is slow as the trailer wants to give the audience an idea that alot of the Harry Potter movie will be evolved around the rivalry between Harry and Voldemort. The slow pace of the trailer at the beggining also gets the audience into the trailer, as the slow camera shots will make the audience aware that the film will have a dark, dull, death theme to it as the camera shots at the beggining consist of dark backgrounds and conflict between Harry and Voldemort.
The music plays quite a crucial part in the trailer as the pace between each camera shot depends on the pace of the music used for the trailer. So at the beggining the pace of the camera shots were slow as there was barely any music, instead of going straight into it the trailer gave the audience the opening of the trailer to gain an understand of what the film will mostly be about. When the music properly comes into the trailer and when its at a fast pace the camera shots change really quickly and it starts to insert more and more shots and starts building to a climax, this is the bit when the audience will start to get goosebumps and the bit that will persuade the audience to watch the movie the most.
The same font is used for the Harry Potter title towards the end of the trailer. This is a really symbolic title as the same font has been used throughout all the Harry Potter films and is almost like a logo as it never changes, it always has that same look to it to portray that the Harry Potter films are out of the ordinary.
In alot of films, if there is alot of different characters, it means most of the time they all have there different little storylines. But with Harry Potter the characters might not always be together, but they are all working towards the same, and thats to put a stop to the conflict that is happening between Voldemorts army and Harry and the Hogwarts students and teachers.

Film Production logo

I have chosen to design this film production logo because I believe that this what a professional one would look like. For example, the dragon represents the strength behind our work, and the scroll is us revealing that to the world. The ying yang symbol is to represent the balance that we try to keep in place, as to accept all aspects is what we aim to achieve. I picked this specific kanji symbol because it is known to be the letter for "courage" which I feel is what is needed for this project to succeed.

Film Trailer Analysis by Anthony Port-Louis

In the first few seconds of the trailer, the teaser shows the production companies that supported the movie.
Then the teaser opens up with a number of defiantly non-heroic shots. For example, the water crashing against rocks, clothes fluttering on a line, a gull circling a wind-swept cliff-top and a fishing boat safely moored in dry dock. This sets the scene as a mundane event compared to what viewers would expect for the conventions of Superman.

Also, the bearded, tired and scruffily dressed, Clark Kent is shown feeding a dog in a back alley before we cut to him working a shift on the same fishing boat from earlier. Struggling with casting nets and soaked by the crashing waves, this version of Kent is clearly being framed as far more ‘human’ than any Superman that has been portrayed before. Viewers would love this kind of concept because it shows the life he had before he became the iconic hero, and the decisions that is resting on his shoulders.

Finally the effective vertical panning shot of Superman flying upwards at an increased velocity until he climaxes in speed gives the viewers the iconic image of what they were expecting from the "greatest superhero". It also finishes the trailer with the "S" symbol which solidifies who the trailer was about in case certain viewers didn't recognise who the character actually was.

Film Trailer Conventions

                                                         Conventions of film trailers

Conventions are methods and techniques that are always/mostly used in film trailers. They are the same type of methods and techniques used over a variety of films to make them what they are. Basic conventions are the release date of the film and the actual name of the film as they are required in the trailer to make the audience fully aware and clearly aware of what the film is called and when they can see it in cinemas. Other conventions that are in most films are effects such as a variety of camera angles, music that goes with the genre of the trailer, the pace of switching between different shots, these are all different effects used to make the trailer look relevant to its genre, and obviously to make it appealing to the audience so that they will go too see it in cinemas.

"The Tormented" is a horror film about teenagers that bullied an "unpopular" boy to death, however this boy then comes back from the death to avenge his death and get back at them. The conventions of this trailer is obviously the name of the film and the release date at the bottom of the screen throughout the trailer to give the audience the details of when they can catch it in cinemas and the actual name of the name. The film also has music that goes well with the whole party theme near the start of the trailer. This is so the young target audience that watch this trailer can relate to the party theme and convince them that this is there type of film and so they go to watch it. The trailer also contains murders, blood, and gory stuff, these, all being the main conventions and themes of the genre horror, so it is vital that these conventions are imported into this trailer, as without these conventions, a horror movie isnt really a horror movie. These conventions are seen in most, if not every horror trailer. Conventions such as "naughty" scenes involving sexual stuff and sex itself are surprisingly convetions used in horror films, as teenagers can relate to this, and sex is usually a distraction from what the "reality" is in horror films which is sooner or later the girl and boy will be murdered by someone, as this is how horror movies usually go. The climax at the end is built up by a fast pace of changing camera shots, this is effective as it shows lots of deaths and crying scenes, along with a depressing music track to go with the shots, this portrays to the audience that this film probably does not have a happy ending, and will probably end the same way many horror films do end, and thats with murders.. and lots of them.

"The sweeney" is an action film about lots of cases, criminals and chasing scenes. The conventions of this film is having big muscular men in the film as action films need these type of actors in it as they are better suited for the type of drama that takes place in the actual movie, this is the case with the majority, if not all action movies. Throughout the entire trailer the pace of the switching of camera angles is very quick, as action movies generally tend to be very high intensity, fast paced films and there is always something going on. Another convention used in this trailer that most action trailers have is cars and establishing shots of the whole setting, cars are a very popular convention used in action films as there are always chasing scenes involving the villains and heros in the film. The establishing shot is also used alot in action films as they show the audience the whole location of where all this action will take place, as the actors will be going all around the location that is shown to them into the trailer. The music used in the film isnt the kind of loud, epic music youd expect to hear as usually this music would be used to create an "Adrenaline rush" and send shivers down the spines of the audience when they watch the trailer. Instead, quiet and dull music is used to kind of create a bit suspence and keep the audience wondering why all this fighting, chasing and shooting is going on in the trailer.

Star wars is a sci-fi film that is non-fictional. You can see that this film is a popular film, as it is made by one of the collosal film industries, which is 20th century fox. Conventions of this film are the release date being shown right at the beginning of the trailer, this is common in most films as the trailers need to make the audience aware of when the film is out in cinemas so that they go watch it. In the trailer there are a variety of camera shots used to show that this film has a variety of different things going on in the film to show that there will always be something going on in the film, to signify "continuous" action going on throughout the movie and to show that there will be many different points of views in the film. Like many films, the trailer has many shots at the end in a short space of time, as the film builds up to a climax. The funny thing is the climax actually does build up to something, with star wars it builds up to the first time Darth Vader is in the star wars film (from the first film) so the audience will be stunned by the end result of the climax.

Introduction

Ninja Scroll Productions

"Ninja scroll Productions" was chosen to be our film company name because it relates to the trailer that we are planning to create in terms of subtlety and action. We originally wanted to use "Desert Eagle" for our name because it had a guerrilla style feel to it, but decided against it due it relating to our film too much.

Anthony - Director - Reviews the progress of the team and gives recommendations on ways to improve

David - Utility member/Cameraman/Editor - Records, edits and handles the scene, location, music and casting for the trailer.

James - Actor/Editor - Protagonist in the trailer and helps with the editing.

The individuals above were chosen because of their mix of talents that can be contributed to the group as each person has their own specialty that can transform a simple trailer into something memorable.
